Pricing & access
Reading these docs is free and open: explore the reference, tutorials, and guides without an account or an agreement. The pricing and access steps below apply once you’re ready to get keys and start building.
What it costs
Section titled “What it costs”Open API access is $35 per clinic site, per month, billed to the practice that turns it on. The fee starts when a clinic enables the feature and begins using keys; there’s no charge for browsing the documentation.
For groups and multi-location operators, the per-site fee applies to each location with access enabled. Questions about your specific account or a larger rollout? Talk to your Shepherd account manager.
Who pays
Section titled “Who pays”The practice using the API is the paying party. If a clinic enables a partner’s integration, the clinic carries API access on its own account; the cost isn’t billed to the integration partner.
What’s required to get keys
Section titled “What’s required to get keys”| You are… | What you need |
|---|---|
| A Shepherd clinic building on your own data | The open API feature enabled on your account (ask your account manager). Then self-serve keys in Shepherd, Admin → Integrations. |
| An integration partner building for other clinics | A signed NDA and, before production, the API Service Agreement. See Integration onboarding. |
See Authentication for how keys work once you have access.
Already onboarding to Shepherd?
Section titled “Already onboarding to Shepherd?”If you’re a new clinic still in onboarding, you can start exploring the API at the same time, but building an integration runs on its own track: it doesn’t pause or extend your standard onboarding timeline, and you’re still expected to complete onboarding and go live on your normal schedule. Talk to your account manager about timing.
Questions about access or pricing go to your Shepherd account manager; general API questions follow your normal support path.
